Grant Mather and Son is a father son team that is continuing a family tradition that goes back to the mid 1800's. Family history says that our ancestors "built half of Fergus". Grant Mather is a stonemason with 35 years experience. His son Rhett has been working with his father for a number of years. After being trained as a designer Rhett began his apprenticeship with his father 3 years ago. Mather and Son are able to design and build masonry projects from conception to the finished product using time tested methods that have changed very little in the last 150 years. We can make just about anything you might want with stone. Mather and son are experts in the restoration and recreation of classic Scottish Style Masonry. We are based out of the Meaford area (located on the shore of Georgian Bay) in Grey County Ontario, an area known for the quality of it's stone, and many typical examples of the Ontario stone farmhouse.

Please browse our galleries to judge the quality of our work and to see if any of the applications might be suitable for a project you are contemplating. The granite fieldstone you see in the photos was split by hand and actually comes from stone piles found in fields on local farms and along roadsides. The limestone comes from quarries near Wiarton Ontario. Links within the site will take you to pages that tell you what we are and what we do. There is a glossary that explains in detail the terms that we have used. If split fieldstone is not to your liking then the links button will take you to some quarries that might have stone you think suitable. If none of that is suitable, the Stone Producers of Ontario site has listings for just about every quarry and supplier in the province.
